Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are people who work directly with individuals with physical disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities with the aim of assisting the individual to become integrated into his/her community or the least restrictive environment. Because our DSPs do a lot of driving, naturally, you must have an insured vehicle and current/valid driver's license and also be able to pass criminal background screen and Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services screen.
Direct Support Professionals Work with People in 4 Areas:
Helping someone be successful in their job is a very important role within PLUS. You will be assisting with soft and hard skills training, on-boarding, on-going support, and maintaining a positive relationship with employers.
Helping someone in their home is greatly rewarding, whether it's helping to setup schedules, teaching someone how to cook or do laundry, clean, take care of personal hygiene, this is critical component of our services.
Life Skills Development
Taking somebody to do their grocery shopping and making healthy choices. Helping someone with budgeting or money management. Helping to prepare meals for the week. Assisting with setting and transportation to Dr. Appointments are what keep our clients moving forward.
We partner with many organizations such as Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Soup Kitchens, etc. to provide activities and opportunities for people to maximize their growth.
